The third Portfolio Experience Conference held on 14th April 2016 in Warsaw was kicked off by Peter Taylor, who shared his experience on Project Management Office Academy Model he is developing at Kronos. Building this PMO Peter is using his experience he has shared in his two books. The interview with Peter Taylor on successful PMOs can be find here and some thought from his workshop held in Poland some time ago here.  The model based on 5 Ps: People, Process, Promotion, Performance, PM Information System and 5 pillars: baseline, foundation, development, career, community. According to Peter effectiveness comes from Ability (aptitude, expertise, experience, perception); Assignments (opportunity to make mistakes, get beyond your comfort zone); Attitude (collaboration, intellectual curiosity, motivation, listening); Alliance (Coach, Team, peers, casual, external).

Beth Ouellette in her speech titled 3P MentorinPortfolio Experience_Beth Ouelletteg Organization stressed whether you have a portfolio, program or PMO, the right staff makes or breaks the successful of the organisation. Beth introduced a new approach, a NEW PMO paradigm, the Project Mentoring Office and shared some results of researches and how to apply them in the organisations.

Top Leaders qualities as determined by 200 senior IT  and ongoing research (Forbs, Gartner) are: vision, supportive, integrity, growth Mindset, decisiveness, motivator, interpersonal skills, empowering, emotionally available, manage conflict, “trusted” Leader, incredible communications.

What does mentoring do?

  • Fresh eyes and ears.
  • Honest perspectives to sometimes challenging situations.
  • Guidance based on best practices and practical experience.

Jack Hsieh covered the importance of New Product Development (NPD) and Business Analysis (BA). In a highly competitive market, the best way to achieve the organisation’s strategic goals is launching products or services favoured by customers.


Portfolio Experience_Craig Kilford





Craig Kilford showed on a real life example how a rapid approach can be successfully implemented by focusing on People, creativity and organisational energy. Unique approaches include: value experience planning, portfolio dreaming, good to great assessments and measuring portfolio happiness.

And finally Mohamed Khalifa closed the conference describing how change management, innovation and agility can act as catalysts in the transformation towards higher competitiveness.


I have mentioned just a few, but there were some more speakers and facilitators of round table discussions: Cezary Aniśko, Damian Joniec, Małgorzata Korytkowska, Piotr Ogonowski, Agnieszka Gasperini, Witold Hendrysiak, Egor Sviridenko and Jerzy Stawicki.
